about

www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/jun/30/public-sector-pensions-policy

The Guardian journalist made specific mention of how the protesting teachers carefully put all their rubbish in the bin. A far cry from the student protests, which were full of people who seem to make trouble for a living. The resulting song bears little resemblance to the truth of what actually happened, but does pay tribute to the
idea of peaceful, civilised, stereotypically English protest - which, like all other protests, tends to get completely ignored.

lyrics

Come listen to this story of a sunny summer's day
Descending onto London come the teachers for to say
They're not happy with the plans to see their pensions getting cut
Their schools and local services the government will gut

Along the Strand's historic route they march with placards out
And someone's made a clever chant for all of them to shout
Their goal is to promote their cause, changing hearts and minds
But memories and opinions are all they'll leave behind

Take your placards down to London
March and shout and moan
Pick up all your litter
Then toddle off home

The police are out in force in case some trouble rears its head
These teachers just want to be heard but they might start seeing red
They're smarter than the students, they simply march along
It's dignified and civilised and then they all go home

Take your placards down to London
March and shout and moan
Pick up all your litter
Then toddle off home

Okay there was some trouble right at the very end
Some people got arrested while the others home did wend
But they weren't real protestors we're all assured of that
They're simply bored and angry idle snooty little brats

Take your placards down to London
March and shout and moan
Pick up all your litter
Then toddle off home

So if you go to London to march and shout and moan
See that you're nice and calm and your opinions will be known
The government will ignore them but that happens anyway
And you won't be in the nick so you can try another day

Take your placards down to London
March and shout and moan
Pick up all your litter
Then toddle off home
