about
The last time I wrote directly from personal experience for a SpinTunes song, it turned out really spectacular, and frankly, it was one of the best songs I had ever written (Crossfire, SpintTunes 4, Round 3). DQ'd or not, still a great song. So, for this round I decided to try the same tactic, and hopefully not screw anything up this time. (Aside from the quiet audio; I apologize)
This summer I had to make a pretty big decision. I'll be a junior in high school next year, and I had the choice of either continuing at my local public high school or enrolling in a performing arts school that's a half hour away. After going back and forth between the two for about three months, I decided to attend the performing arts school. The thing is, I held a very solid niche in my local public school. I had a tight group of friends, and a role that was most likely something along the lines of the "nice band geek that's pretty smart and hangs out with the drama kids, and I think she's in a band or something". Point being, I was actually finally starting to figure out where my place was. People that I didn't know would come up to me saying they heard some of my music on youtube or facebook, and say "really great job, I hope you have a big future in this."
So now instead of being "the music chick" I'll become "a music chick," which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just something I won't be used to. By choosing to go a different direction, a few of my friends felt that I was sort of abandoning them, but maybe this song it might show them that I'm only trying to make the best decision for my future.
This round's challenge came conveniently around the time I made my final decision, prompting an instant idea. For me, I saw the footprint as the mark that I left on my former school, and also as walking toward a new place; a new school.
I hope this bio cleared some confusion or further explained some lyrics.

lyrics
Out of the house, I was out and bound
Over the frozen ice of Lake O'Dowd
At that time when snow just barely covers the ground
It's always hard to leave your hometown
Glance back and saw my footprints near the shore
I don't know why I hadn't noticed before
But my boots kept walking forward
'Cause I believe in something more
Okay
I left it behind me
Alright
The window of opportunity
Today
The test of my stability
It was time for a redirection
It was time to take action
Trust me, my friends, you will not be forgotten
I refuse to feel heartbroken
Okay
I left it behind me
Alright
The window of opportunity
Today
The test of my stability
Step by step by step by step
Step by step by step by step
Step by step by step by step
