lyrics

The Irish Sea can't remember me
And it don't remember you
Never mind the thing we had when we were twenty-two

This is probably my least favourite town in the world
It's got a shitload of shells but not one pearl
Why it's so fucking depressing I can't quite work out
'Cause it used to be cool when you and me hung about
Down the shore where the sand is a deep shade of bland
And the rails are all rusted like the washed up beer cans
Four Chuck Taylor's made their way through the sand

The Irish Sea can't remember me
And it don't remember you
Never mind the thing we had when we were twenty-two
As pretty as the water's grey
And senile as it's blue
We could walk the sands again
And start it all anew

This is probably the worst time to say we were wrong
I only think of you when I hear those songs
Be it Elvis Costello, or old Percy Sledge
Those melodies soundtracked my wholehearted pledge
To take this as far as you'd allow me to reach
But no one told me forever was a figure of speech
I guess I really kind of miss that beach

When we're walking along with a smile on our face
I believed you when you said it's a mysterious place
Well it must have been so, I've never seen you the same
You were happy there or something, I thought you were insane
Maybe I couldn't see the charm for the waves

But to hell with that
And to hell with you
