James Young - When The Morning Comes

about

As a child of (primarily) the 80s, any picture of a beach immediately makes me think of Spielberg's "Jaws". I tried to break this connection by figuring out where this particular beach was (Lincolnville, Maine, US) but sadly subsequent Googling only reinforced the mental link: bangordailynews.com/2014/07/14/outdoors/experts-expect-great-white-shark-sightings-to-increase-off-maine-coast/

I've sought to avoid making the "Jaws" connection too explicit - the lyrics kinda cover the young man in the opening sequence (Cassidy) whose love interest (Chrissie) becomes the shark's first victim. The eastern musical motif that injects itself periodically is intended to represent the relentless, alien nature of the shark. The guitar solo is there cos I like guitar solos. And I'm gonna stop there, before you (justifiably) assume I've gone mad :-)

lyrics

A day beside the sea
Wet sand beneath your feet
And fire in her eyes
The ocean meets the beach
Desire's within reach
You're feeling so alive

But when the morning comes
You realise she's gone
Was she in your head?
Warmed by the rising sun
You forget the things you've done
And what she said

A picture perfect scene
Until fate intervened
She never said goodbye
You long to hold her hand
You want to understand
You need to be told why

But when the morning comes
You realise she's gone
Was she in your head?
Warmed by the rising sun
You forget the things you've done
And what she said
