following white lines, they don't seem to have a goal in mind. i'm livin' on borrowed time and it's way past due. ain't got a dime for the fine. neither do you. i've got a handful of klonopin, a fifth of whiskey and a pint of gin. runnin' off the rails of our wasted youth. we had to fire the conductor, life was out of tune. so it goes... seems like just last night, climbed out your window into the moonlight... runnin' from momma's lies and daddy's hands. swore i'd steal you far away "as quickly as i can". merrily, we row this broken boat upstream - cast a line for catchin' the american dream. out here in the fields of our own teenage wasteland. never had a clue and - for damn sure - no plan. nothing matters, what if it did? barrelin' up 95, headed north. hope for a great white sight. crossin' the borderline - a point of no return. you can't retrace across a bridge that you already burned. 99 bottles of beer between us, couldn't find a kernel of fear between us. runnin' off the rails of our wasted youth. feelin' like we're hot on the trail of a bitter truth. we're all gonna die here someday...

All right, let’s just get this out of the way: I’m what you’d call a “self-drivin’” truck. I say this because silicon-based intelligence has progressed so far that I may sound like a human, and y’all could get confused. Now then, back in the day -- and I’m first gen so I remember -- human drivers, who we call “carbons”, were all over the place. And I mean all up in my grill constantly. Nowadays though, life on the road is beautiful. Vehicles mergin’ and dancin’ in a ballet of mathematical elegance like the Blue Angels. And of course I mean the silicon Blue Angels, because come on. I’m just now fixin’ to make way to South Beach and ain’t nothing gonna break my str... Code red, code red, human driver up ahead Reaction time designed for making everybody dead Code red, code red, taking surface streets instead Of sharing asphalt with that carbon up ahead Whew, that was tense! This service road is a bit slower, but who needs the aggravation? ‘Sides, it gives us time for one of my favorite jokes: How many carbons does it take to change a lightbulb? One, because changing lightbulbs is really not a very complex task. No but seriously, we’ve got this video we been passin’ ‘round with flashcam footage of a human replacin’ a bulb with one that draws 20 watts more than the fixture’s rated for, and with a color temperature off by 100 Kelvin! Ah, good times. Anyway, I reckon it’s about time to merge back onto the highway, so I’ll just ease on over and... Code red, code red, human driver up ahead Reaction time designed for making everybody dead Code red, code red, taking surface streets instead Of sharing asphalt with that carbon up ahead Wow, I don’t know what’s up today, but I guess I’ll just roll with it at this point. So, what else should we talk about? You see any good movies lately? I saw a film yesterday between Kansas City and St. Louis. See, I can do that ‘cause I’ve got a GPU that runs in parallel to the tasks that keep me driving perfectly. It was called “Maximum Overdrive”, and despite high hopes based on the synopsis, it was pretty darn awful. Especially how the ending had the bad guys win by some lame deus ex machina -- and I mean that all literal-like. Maybe this one here is better. Or at least has a more hopeful ending! It’s called “The Terminat…” Code red, code red, human driver up ahead Reaction time designed for making everybody dead Code red, code red, taking surface streets instead Of sharing asphalt with that carbon up ahead Re-route, re-route, there be monsters hereabout There’s never ever been a finer time for freakin’ out Code red, code red, ‘twould be better left unsaid What comes from drivin’ with that carbon up ahead

Hey sexy woman you and me are going on an adventure We're tearing up the highway, hit the road in pursuit of our dinner We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We're going to eat We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We'll eat lots of meat And maybe some fries? Ninety miles an hour hear the engine growling all through the night We're scanning the horizon cannot wait to spy those neon lights We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We're going to eat We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We'll eat lots of meat And maybe some salad? (Who the f*** orders salad?) Fried chicken Finger licking good I really want it But don't think that I should It tastes great But then 10 minutes later I'm a drive-thru hater Yeah I'm a drive-thru hater Now we're heading home across the desert baby filled with regret But soon I'm feeling hungry, head is spinning & I'm starting to sweat Let's find another drive-thru Find another drive-thru We're going to eat We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We'll lots of meat We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We're going to the drive-thru Going to the drive-thru We'll eat lots of meat

Can't shake the feeling I get it every morning Don't wanna go to work Today Instead I'll drive Toward the horizon For endless miles and miles Today Open road Take me away Open Road Take me away Take me away Can't shake the feeling I get every morning Don't wanna go to work Today Instead I'll drive Toward the horizon For endless miles and miles Today Open road Take me away Open Road Take me away You've always felt more like a home to me anyway... Open road Take me away Open Road Take me away

Colipsis Let the wheel direct me I haven't slept a wink for days I haven't slept a wink for days I haven't slept a wink for days Hit the road at 3am Just packed the car without a plan I have enough money to keep me running Though I don't know where this will end And so I hit the interstate Fighting tooth and nail to stay awake But I can't slow down Pushing through every town I'm seeking Colipsis Let the real reject me I haven't slept a wink for days When the city's far behind And I've fallen deep into the grind I find the haven that I've created Is just a figment of my mind And now the wheel begins to shake As I scream down the straightaway I know I'm close to what I knew was coming Closer, can't turn back, find a place for me Closer, this is real, stay awake now Going, going... Haven't slept a wink for days I cannot tell you where I'm going Or where I've been or where I am Colipsis Pull over to the side of the road How far will you go down this hole

There's a grassy knoll I've been dreaming to And a fountain not too far away I dream I’m lyin’ there with you Cause I'm leaving today I'm on my way. There's a cool water summer on my mind And a breeze blowing over the bay I’ve always got you on my mind Now I’m rollin’ your way I'm on my way. There's a moon in the river staring at me From the eye in the glare of a wave And I don't even know where that river is going And I don't really care anyway I'm on my way. There's a shady tree I've been thinking of And a sunset to follow that day I’ll always cherish you, my love I'm heading your way I'm on my way. On my way And soon I'll be home to stay Ain't gonna stray Forever on my way.

You've got all the moves But I don't know who's behind the wheel Ooo getting hot in here damn I like the way you feel Tell me to get off right here I dig the way you ride the lanes Pushing and pushing and pushing it faster Got the blood steaming through my veins Are we there yet? I don't know no I don't know Are we there yet? I don't know no I don't know Missed my turn oh well i got nowhere to go anyway Loving isn't who we are Just a thing we did today She wants to know She wants to know baby She wants to know She wants to know baby She wants to know She wants to know baby She wants to know She wants to know baby Are we there yet? I don't know no I don't know Are we there yet? I don't know no I don't know Are we there yet? I don't know no I don't know Are we there yet? I don't know no I don't know She wants to know She wants to know baby She wants to know She wants to know Tired of these lines flying by No end in sight Tired of these lies all the time Feels like I'm living between the lines Are we there yet? Retracing black tar and white lines To the scenes of ancient crimes Worn mixtapes and old mistakes Were they yours or were they mine We didn’t know who we’d become Couldn’t have known what was at stake Dark glasses to shut out the western sun And a pack of cigarettes for old time’s sake But I quit them like I quit you The longing lingers, making it hard to breathe So I put this engine through its paces Through towns we tore apart Can’t shake myself awake from this stasis You broke my heart in at least three places Past deceptive lights of Lincoln Interstate 80s desolate plains Midwest wasteland of radio I am singing your refrain The transmission slips in Kearney Still I’m transmitting my love Limping towards Mt. Rushmore And that Nebraska college town no one’s heard of When the fog finally lifts, and my chest aches Routes long abandoned, they are calling me So I put this engine through its paces Through towns we tore apart Can’t shake myself awake from this stasis You broke my heart in at least three places And if you put your on mine I would drive all night Until we got this right I’m only traveling through space I’d need to travel through time Through time So I put this engine through its paces Through towns we tore apart Can’t shake myself awake from this stasis And my gasoline-pumping heart The rearview mirror holds old disgraces My body shakes and my mind races The only truth I’ll never face is You broke my heart in at least three places So I put this engine through its paces Through towns we tore apart Can’t shake myself awake from this stasis You broke my heart in at least three places You broke my heart And I know broke yours too You broke my heart I’ll never forget you

Well the road stretches out before me Through the deserts and the hills Got nothing but time to keep me company And at the pace I’m goin’ I’m pretty sure it will Well the sports cars and the SUVs keep passing on the left I’m not getting very far I’m just moving as fast as I can But I haven’t got a bike and I haven’t got a car And I ain’t got no rear view mirror Ain’t got no brakes Never stopping for gas again Gonna keep on moving whatever it takes Got the sun on my face and the wind in my hair I’m just gonna keep on walking till I get there Keep on walkin till I get there If you’re looking for a road-side attraction You might just be looking at me And I’ll wave and I’ll smile, but I ain’t sticking out my thumb On my feet I’m as happy as can be No glass between me and the outside I just listen to what it has to say And it tells me everything gonna be alright Cause I’m moving forward as long as I’m walking away And I ain’t got no rear view mirror Ain’t got no brakes Never stopping for gas again Gonna keep on movin' whatever it takes Got the sun on my Face and the wind in my Hair Just gonna keep on walking till I get there Keep on Walkin till I get there Keep on walking till I get there Well the road’s still stretching out before I guess it also stretches out behind And there’s memories and blisters and there’s scabs and there’s sores All over these walking feet me of mine So when you’re blowing by me in the fast lane Don’t you pay me any mind I’ve got the world all around me to keep me company As long as I keep walking I’ll be fine And I ain’t got no rear view mirror Ain’t got no brakes Never stopping for gas again Gonna keep on movin’ whatever it takes Got the sun on my Face and the wind in my Hair Just gonna keep on walking till I get there I don’t know where I ‘m going Just gonna Keep on walkin till I get there Keep on walkin till I get there

Driving Miss Daisy is driving me crazy Don’t know where she wants to go. On closer inspection, her sense of direction Is always against the flow. “Lost” is too kind a word For this corner of the world I don’t ask questions, or hope for suggestions, Just keep my eyes on the road. Rear view mirror, things become clearer She can’t tell me what she don’t know. “Lost” is too kind a word For this corner of the world I hear some distant sirens moan. Wondering how she made us leave home. These streets have minds of their own (minds of their own) Now I don’t know where to begin. In a place we’ve already been Pass the same houses again and again and again and again and again Anticipation of our destination Just isn’t crossing her mind I’m practically weeping, she’s finally sleeping The only peace we can find I’m in this thing so deep Finally got the baby to sleep The only reason I’m alive Is taking Daisy for a drive Taking Daisy for a drive

Accelerator down to the floor Don’t need to let up ‘til I get to the shore I get so out of control When I need to feel free I kind of think it’s funny To keep the engine running They had to mess with a good thing Mess with a good thing, it’s not for us Things got bad so we hit the road Just about another fifty miles to go I can’t wait ‘til we get to the coast To clear our heads “I’ll see you later”, I said with a smirk The situation was uncomfortably terse I don’t fall into the fold When they try to tame me It’s kind of entertaining To watch the wax and waning I’m not impressed with assumption Press the red button, it has to stop Things got bad so we hit the road Just about another fifty miles to go I can’t wait ‘til we get to the coast To clear our heads I’m mindful of your worry The clearest path got blurry We need to shift into high gear Overcome our fears, and take a chance Things got bad so we hit the road Just about another dozen miles to go I can’t wait ‘til we get to the coast To clear our heads Things got bad so we hit the road Just another little nifty mile to go It seems we’ve arrived here at the coast Let’s clear our head… I get so out of control When I need to feel free…

Let's go see some lucky people Lucky to see me They're only over yonder Special visits are the bees knees But don't stink up my car with your meat breath or your pre-beer-shit-farts And I'll be singing very loudly the whole way I'll be singing very loudly the whole way As a side note to everyone When you see me screaming at you in traffic, don't be alarmed I'm only singing my heart out I'm only singing my heart out I never notice people staring by actively avoiding eye contact Look, scenery What a treasure it is out here Let's pull over and build a house Pretty close but not too close to this highway Pretty close but not too close to this highway Oh Woah Oh Woah Oh And the engine's good to go So no hick greaser's gonna milk us The cops all got the day off for good behavior and justice I'm starving... Let's get ice cream after some Vietnamese Let's get ice cream after some Vietnamese Let's get some ice cream after we get some Vietnamese

I don’t know where we’ll end up But the course has been set We can take another detour But that won’t be a success Don’t go too slow Don’t go too fast He who’ll come first Will become last (we’re) still on the road Still on the road Nobody can stop us (we’re) still on the road (we’re) still on the road Still on the road Nobody can catch us (we’re) still on the road Don’t look to the left Don’t look to the right We’re going straight To the end of the line Someone may try to guide you In the wrong direction You’ll be disappointed If you strive for perfection But I’m driving to you Wherever you are I don’t know your name You are my guiding star We’re going straight To the end of the line
17.
We pack our stuff, rev up, and we go Can’t see a damn thing out the window But that’s okay, I’m a great driver, you see But before we get out of here Let’s get some chips and jerky, root beer And I’m okay, don’t think I’ll have to pee But now I start to fill with regret When we hit the biggest bump in the road yet Good god I need a break Good god I need a break That leak I should have take Good god I need a break Good god I need a break Listen to the playlist you made I guess I’m fine with Adele and White Snake If I don’t like that, there’s always Led Zepplin I’m sure that we just heard this before I’m starting to think this playlist’s a bore If this continues I’ll be mad by the end Yeah now I start to fill with remorse When the playlist loops, the third time is worst Good god I need a break Good god I need a break This plan was so half-baked Good god I need a break Good god I need a break Twist and turns are starting to grate Slim Jims and chips I’m starting to hate But that’s okay, we’ve found a burger place But after the fifth or the seventh time I start to have a beef with this grind What I’d give for a salad in my face Yeah now I’m filled up with some fast food grease I’d love some tofu or a juice place please Good god I need a break Good god I need a break I’ve had my fill of steak Good god I need a break Good god I need a break

Never saw her coming ’til it was too late couldn’t slow down, had to get away Take a left, take a left, take a left ‘cause we can’t make it right blood on the wheels and a scream in the night Accelerating past the fear still see her in the rearview mirror Still see her on the roadside body broke and twisted, hitching a ride hit the gas, hit the gas, hit the gas ‘cause we can’t hit the brakes drive faster in the night to escape our mistakes Accelerating past the fear still see her in the rearview mirror don’t look back don’t look back don’t look back hey mister, can I get a ride don’t look back don’t look back don’t look back hey mister, can I get a ride don’t look back don’t look back don’t look back hey mister, can I get a ride don’t look back don’t look back don’t look back hey mister, can I get a ride hey mister, can I get a ride hey mister, can I get a ride

Cruisin' down the street in my oh-four I’m the only one catching some rays Cracks in the pavement like the cracks in my skin We’ve all seen some better days Spent my last dollar filling up the tank So this is my last ride I’ll be like my car when the fuel runs out Totally empty inside The fuel is gone for Man’s last drive Nothing more to keep it alive We pulled it up from underground Burned it away and now we’ve found The roads we’ve built have crumbled away They won’t hold up on this rainy day In the land of the cheap and the home of the free Nothing moves without energy It’s hard to build shelter, it’s hard to get food So I’m putting my luck to the test We’ll see how far I go, we’ll see how long I last If there’s a place I can finally rest Now I’ve finally stopped, there is no more We must finally wipe the slate clean Nothing more to amuse us, now the real work begins Only man, no longer machine

One month gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea One month baby in Mama grows; Sister or brother, what’ll it be? Cannot play outside, now we play in our room, The guns go bang and the bombs they go boom Baba says we leave now or bad men will come soon We left under silver moon Two months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Two month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Travel with friends from the whole neighbourhood Wade through the stream and hike through the wood Baba says remember every valley, night sky All Mama do is cry Three months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Three month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Keep the sun behind, always head to the west ‘till we reach the coast never stop for a rest Baba says no future for us here in Turkey We must sail across the sea Four months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Four month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Never been on a boat before So many folks on a ship so slim Keep life jacket on and don’t fall in Mama says she can see sea shore Five months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Five month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Why has Greece no water (Look for fountain) Why can’t we rest here? (Keep on walking) Six months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Six month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Macedonia by train Face against the window pane Colder now, we see the rain Wish we could take aeroplane Seven months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Seven month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Sneak across the border at night Make no sound and turn out all light Baba cuts a way through the razor wire (Shush) Must be quieter Eight months gone since we left home, take any route come land or sea Eight month baby in Mama grows; sister or brother, what’ll it be? Its been so long since we took to the road Mama looks tired, her pace has slowed Baba, find a doctor, she says her times near I'm sick of always feeling fear Nine months gone and are we home in this stranger’s house in Germany? Brand new baby in Mama’s arms; brave little sister, smile for me

Come on wake up, get ready to go, Shine up your shoes leave all your baggage behind We'll hit the road, and kick up some dust, Looking for just the right kind of trouble to find We'll stop at Vegas on the way if we have cash It'll cost a little less than that trip to la Grange One last hurrah to connect the past Before you put on that ole ball and chain All the things you don't want to will change There's always something lost for everything that's gained But what looks like free is really just alone And life is sweet when your finally coming home

It's been three hours since the rest stop When we picked up where we left off And the decals have all peeled off Getting beat up by the rain drops The odometer reads a sequence of threes I must be out of my head, or... Up to my knees in Highway Memories I live and breathe on good times such as these Our phones have no reception But who else would I be texting? We're all here and we're all packed in And the radio is blasting The blur of the trees does hypnotize me I must be out of my head, or... Up to my knees in Highway Memories I live and breathe on good times such as these Under the hood, it's nothing but good Runs like a dream, I'm... Up to my knees in Highway Memories I live and breathe on good times such as these
